# Roles and permissions

> Decide what each teammate can see and do, with roles.

Roles decide what teammates can do. You assign a role when you [invite someone](https://docs.emplorium.io/workspace/teammates.md), or later from **Settings › Teammates**. Manage roles in **Settings › Roles & permissions**.

Settings › Roles & permissions.

## Create a role

1. Click **Create role**.
2. Give it a name and a **description**.
3. Pick its permissions (see below).
4. Optionally **add agents to the role** straight away.

Open a role to see its members and change its permissions.

## Permissions

Permissions are grouped by area. For most areas you can allow viewing, creating, editing and deleting separately.

| **Messages** | View, send, edit and delete messages in chats. |
| **Team members** | View teammates and invite new ones. |
| **Roles** | View and manage roles. |
| **Billing** | View and manage plans, credits and invoices. |
| **Settings** | View and change workspace settings. |
| **Integrations** | View and connect channels and apps. |
| **AI features** | View and manage Aura AI agents. |
| **Analytics** | View analytics. |
| **Profile** | View and update their own profile. |

> Give people the smallest role that lets them do their job. A teammate who only answers chats needs **Messages**, not **Billing** or **Roles**.
