# Notifications

> See who's waiting and what's been transferred to you, and choose how your team is alerted.

## The notification center

The **bell** in the left sidebar opens your notifications. Its badge counts what's waiting for you.

![The notification center panel opened from the sidebar](https://mintcdn.com/emplorium/ugrIr0OwIbcsQUR_/images/inbox/notifications.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=ugrIr0OwIbcsQUR_\&q=85\&s=68c4d671b2e225ff8da9a0780c8254cd)

Notifications: visitors waiting for an agent, and chats transferred to you.

* **All**, **Pending** and **Transfers** filter the list.
* A **pending** notification means a visitor is waiting for an agent. Click **Accept** to take the chat, or **Ignore** to leave it for someone else.
* A **transfer** notification means a teammate handed a chat to you, with their reason if they gave one.
* **Open Pending**, at the bottom, takes you to the **Pending** list in the [Inbox](https://docs.emplorium.io/inbox/overview.md).

When there's nothing left, the panel says **You're all caught up**.

## Sounds and browser notifications

Choose how your team is alerted in **Settings › Chat preferences › Notifications**:

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Play sound on new chat** | An audio alert when a new chat starts. |
| **Play sound on new message** | An audio alert when a new message arrives. |
| **Show notification on new chat** | A browser notification when a new chat starts. |
| **Show notification on new message** | A browser notification when a new message arrives. |

The **Agents** settings are the defaults for your team's dashboard; the **Visitors** settings apply to the chat widget on your site.

> [!TIP]
>
> Browser notifications need your permission: the first time, your browser asks whether Emplorium may show notifications. If you blocked it, allow notifications for the dashboard in your browser's site settings.
